Material & methods: In this study 0/5 cc of 5 common herbal drug (Cichorium intybus, Fumaria parvi flora, Zizyphus jujuba, Alhagi psudoalhagi and Purgative manna) which are obtained by Hydrochloric instillation, then the level of billirubin was checked by Diazo blank method.

The goal of this study is evaluation the effect of common herbal drugs used in management of neonatal hyper-billirubinemia with in vitro method.
The other herbal drugs may be decrease billirubin level with another mechanism, for example by cathartic effect or activation of liver enzymes, but this study revealed the only drug with direct decreasing effect on billirubin is Cichorium intybus.
Therefore the effective substance of Cichorium intybus must be separated and will used in in vivo method.
